About the Blog
CoNY is an ever-growing collection of short and sometimes even shorter fiction inspired directly from the everyday sights, sounds, smells, tastes and emotions of the city.
It’s meant to celebrate the phenomenon of so many individuals of varying backgrounds, languages, ages, goals and motivations sharing the same small space and interacting with each other every day. Every single body in the metropolis from the bored faces behind the Duane Reade checkout counter, to those tamed, patient throngs stuck together in an underground tunnel waiting for the almighty signals ahead, to the joggers navigating crowded city streets, to the commuters in all of the cars that put the rush in rush hour—each and every one of them is incessantly breathing, thinking, assessing themselves, reacting to their surroundings, missing their parents or avoiding their parents, and ultimately trying to reach a goal be it the front of the line or fame and fortune.
If you look close enough at New Yorkers and their interactions, you can take a good guess at what each one is moving toward and what it’s like for them to run into each other on the way there. All the elements of a good story are under our noses everyday. And hopefully they will be shared by myself and others on this blog.
